With yet another Valentine’s Day rolling by, the one question all the girls constantly have on their minds, is how to dress to impress like never before. That extra oomph, that extra sex appeal, that extra something that helps us stand out in a throng of sexy women. Like I always say, fashion is seasonal, but style is unique to each individual and can veto fashion; so don’t follow what celebrities do, find your own style, and complement it! Read on to find a few beauty and style tips to make this Valentine’s Day particularly special and steamy :)
First up, like all first steps, build a strong foundation. Drink lots of water all day to keep that face looking plump and hydrated! And only eat face-friendly foods from a day before, like fruits, to add to the natural glow for your skin- the lack of bloating and calories come as a bonus.!
Cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin to look its best and glow like a 100-watt bulb. Nobody likes blotchy, dry, dull skin, and then to top it with sultry makeup for Valentine’s, you’re bound to end up looking like Cruela de Vil, the creepy old woman from 101 Dalmatians rather than Kim Kardashian. Follow a revitalizing routine, cleanse your face with a vitamin rich face wash, tone with rose water if you wish, and end by generously moisturizing with your daily glow moisturizer. Scrub your body (I usually make my own scrub with a cup of olive oil and 2 cups of sugar; it exfoliates and moisturizes at the same time leaving a beautiful baby soft skin!) for a body that makes men want to touch and feel.
Oil your tresses with any hair oil of your preference, (my favorite is mixing 2 teaspoons each of coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, almond oil and amla oil, I also add in a couple of drops of tea-tree essential oil and a few splashes of fresh lemon juice; this washes out to leave frizz-less silky soft hair), wash out after half hour and dry using a blow dryer from the back front with your head down, for instant volume. Or if you want the beachy waves for your night out, just apply hair mousse on damp hair and scrunch it up.
With the foundation all set, lets start getting dressed!
Choose a dress that isn’t overtly sexy with big gashes to expose more skin than you should actually show. Remember, less is more, and with very little skin showing, boys tend to run away with their imagination and that can add to the chemistry between you and him more than anything else.
Pick out heels that not only look hot on your feet, but also are comfortable to walk around in, with enough heel to suit you. Nothing looks worse than a lovely woman on Valentine’s Day, strutting about in shoes that are difficult for her to balance on. And what’s worse than that, is to wear sexy shoes that bite your feet so hard, you end up sitting through the night to avoid walking because it hurts.
Intricate hairstyles look good if you know how to do them correctly on the type of hair you have, so avoid experimentation on the day, instead stick to something that requires less effort and looks sexy at the same time; like curling, crimping or straightening your hair. (Quick tip for fastest curling method: make sections all over head, twirl the separate sections of hair with finger, cover with foil and with the help of straightener, apply heat and hold for about 20 to 30 seconds, each foiled section. Once done, get rid of the foil and run your fingers through the hair to loosen up the curls, spray some hair spray and voila!).
Coming to the most important part of getting ready- the makeup. As is the rule, pair dark eyes with nude lip or nude eyes with dark lip. Don’t go overboard with both being dark or you’ll look like a hybrid between a raccoon and a platypus!
And if you plan on doing a red lip to ante up the sex factor, please make sure to do it perfectly so as to avoid smudging lipstick/gloss and red teeth. (Tip: exfoliate lips, apply foundation, outline lips with red pencil, and then fill it in. Apply the red lipstick; Mac Ruby Woo in my case; and top it with a clear or red tinted gloss). End with wiping your teeth and the excess gloss inside the lips by closing your lips on a finger and pulling it out with a pop.
Finish your look with nice, smooth application of nail paint and just a couple pieces of jewelry. Too much bling will outshine your dress and makeup, so stick to one or two only, enough to complement and not override.
Step back and admire yourself in the mirror and head out. Go on then, rock the night being the sexiest woman you are and don’t forget to be confident!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
