Many people like to follow a daily routine of showering first thing in the morning; I should know, I do too! But how many of us are aware of the blunders we make in our shower, putting our hair at risk? And in doing so, ruining our image as well as hair health.
For the longest time, I would shampoo my hair once, twice and thrice even, just to make sure I get all the dirt and grime out, that too, on a daily basis. Consequence? I experienced first hand, dry and dull, lifeless hair that made me want to chop it off. And chop I did. But then I realized the blunders I made and thank god, after several years of correcting my mistake, I finally have long healthy, shiny hair! And you will too, once you see the error of your ways and rectify. Read on, mentioned here are some of the most common shampoo mistakes we make.
First and foremost, many of us don’t use the appropriate shampoo that are texture specific and that target our hair concerns, and instead, we use the first shampoo we get our hand on. Using a shampoo created to decrease oil production on a dry scalp, will further strip the scalp of what minimal oil that there was, hence leaving the hair prone to damage and breakage. Your first step toward improvement – assess your hair texture first and buy the required shampoo.
Moreover, people living a hectic lifestyle, young mums in particular, juggle household, kids, work and husband and rarely find time to eat, let alone condition their hair. You need to find a way through it. Even if it means to shampoo on alternate days, followed by conditioner. Every hair type needs conditioning. You owe it to your hair!
So you’re using the appropriate shampoo and you’re conditioning too, and yet your hair is falling out and going limp? Maybe your technique of shampooing is wrong. Yes, there is much more to shampooing than to just lather and wash off. You need to apply pressure and massage the shampoo into your scalp, using your finger pads and not your nails. In doing this, you improve circulation to the scalp, whereas scratching the scalp damages the hair and leaves it weak and easy to break.
Then there are those that love to oil their hair – that’s good for your hair, they probably thank you in their own way. But they cry out when you lather, rinse and repeat three to four times just to get the oil out. Because it doesn’t just get the oil out, it takes the health out of your hair. There are ways to get around that and using this easy homemade tip will save you much at the salon!
Just prepare a mix of ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar with a liter mineral water. Once you’re done shampooing, give your hair a final rinse using this mix, this will remove any oil or grime. In fact, women who use too many products in their hair and fear the buildup of product can also use this tip as an effective means of removing any grease and debris. What’s more, this leaves your hair shiny looking and silky smooth!
Now that you’re aware of the most common mistakes when shampooing, make efforts to correct it and give your hair the respect they deserve!
