2 years back I was extremely apprehensive about my oily hair. I just had this long dead straight hair which was categorically problematic to wash diurnal but I had to otherwise it would get extremely oily and looked ugly. I couldn’t avoid the oil. I applied every sort of shampoo and conditioner on which I could get my hand but couldn’t get purge of the problem. Extremely aggravated by the fact I went to the doctor who told me that usage of shampoo daily dehydrate our hair. To rehydrate it our scalp harvest oil which was a nuisance for me. He gave me many tips (despite charging an obnoxious fee) which helped me a lot and which I am going to share with you guys. Hope it comes in handy to you too. The foremost thing you can do is stop combing your hair extensively with your hands as they are the main source of spreading oil from your scalp to your hair. Use a quality shampoo or conditioner and main thing know your hair. I also looked up on internet and asked my friends and relatives about the remedies and got the following ideas.
- Dye your hair
He told me that dyes have chemicals that lift our hair away from the scalp which makes it harder for oil to travel up the hair shaft. Whether you give it a complete dye or give it highlights it will just work for you fine. it will help drying the oil. This really toiled. I got myself streaked and viola I could go out without shampooing for a week.
- Rinse with vinegar
Vinegar, tea and diluted lemon juice helps cutting the oil from your head. This is because it contains tannic acid, a natural astringent, which leaves the hair clean and tidy. You can use a fruity shampoo later to get rid of the smell (my friend’s trick which she swore was passed from generations to generations).
- Skip a wash
Washing your hair every day is adding the risk. Shampooing and an oily scalp go hand-in-hand. The more you shampoo more oil your scalp will produce to rehydrate it so don’t wash daily instead skip a day or two. Brush them extensively so that oil may spread. Soon your hair will adapt to it and oil production will be stabilized. Shampooing also strips off your natural oil causing to overproduce sebum which is waterproof and makes the hair weak.
- Style your hair in curls
The doctor also told me to curl my hair, if I like the look of it. She said that the wavier your hair texture is, the drier it tends to stay. The waves and bend hair make it harder for oil to spread quickly as compared to straight hair. The bends stop the oil to travel fast like a speed breaker. The oil tends to travel slowly.
- Use baby powder, cocoa powder or corn-starch
The best way to get rid of the oil is to use baby powder on the roots. It adds texture to fine hair and enables the hair to stick together too. It’s a great option for lighter hair. The excess oil will be absorbed by the powder and leave your hair neat and clean. You just dab the powder on a puff and blot the roots with it. For darker hair cocoa powder or dark eye shadows can help. Apply it with some brush without inking your scalp.
Hope you guys will like my therapies. if you got some of your own please do share. It will be highly appreciated.
